Trump supporters strong in rural Virginia

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - While Virginia went to Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, many rural counties across the Commonwealth heavily favored Donald Trump.

Local Trump supporters said they are hoping his business background can boost the economy in Southwest Virginia.

Others said they are simply tired of politicians who they feel have done nothing for them and they are ready to give the non-traditional candidate a chance inside the White House.

"I'm profoundly disappointed in the Republicans," said Trump supporter Tom Doran. "They have been in power in the House and Senate. Have they done things for us? No. I think this guy is an outsider. They rebelled against him and I think that really inspired people to vote for him."

Dr. Scott Dunn, a communications professor at Radford University, said he believes the polls did not accurately predict Trump's victory because there were so many undecided voters right up until Election Day.
