Input sought on bike, pedestrian improvements for Danville's River District

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - People in Danville can share their thoughts on ways to make the city's River District more bike and pedestrian friendly.

The city is holding a meeting at the Pepsi building at 661 Craghead Street at 4 p.m. on Thursday for people to review and comment on the results of a study conducted by the Danville Urbanized Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The study offered suggestions based on how it found pedestrians move around in the River District.

City engineer Brian Dunevant said work could be a challenge depending on what people want.

"If it's widening out sidewalks, that could be logistically challenging because then it could be that we're eliminating parking spaces, which is something we don't want to do downtown," Dunevant explained. "So, it has to all be taken into account as to what's trying to be achieved."
