Celanese cuts 27 jobs at Giles County plant

GILES COUNTY (WSLS 10) – Celanese announced on Wednesday it is cutting 27 jobs from its Narrows facility.

The cuts are being made due to a reduced global demand for acetate tow; in addition to efficiency and productivity measures that are being taken, according to Travis Jacobsen, a Celanese spokesman.

All staff impacted were told on Wednesday and Jacobsen said those individuals are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, outplacing assistance, severance and other benefits to help them transition to successful new employment.

Furthermore, Jacobsen said Celanese is partnering with job placement industries to host a job fair in the coming weeks in that region.

The Narrows plant has been operating for 75 years.

Celanese is one of largest employers in Giles County as more than 600 employees work there.
