ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Tom Garrett (VA-5), Bob Goodlatte (VA-6) and Morgan Griffith (VA-9) have won their respective Congressional races.

Incumbents Goodlatte and Griffith will return to Washington, D.C., while Tom Garrett is expected to win the seat currently held by Rep. Robert Hurt, who choose to not run for reelection.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the following statement after winning reelection as the representative of Virginia’s Sixth Congressional District in the House of Representatives:

“Thank you for your support, for your vote, and for your trust in me as your representative. The Sixth District came together today to strongly endorse a message of common sense, conservative leadership at the polls. I am honored that the voters have chosen me to be their representative. I will work hard to continue serving you whether it is fighting for a balanced budget amendment, checking executive overreach, protecting our constitutional freedoms, strengthening our borders and national security, standing up for life, or replacing Obamacare with real patient-centered health care solutions.

“There are many people who helped our team emerge victorious today – I’m grateful for the support of my wife, Maryellen, and my family throughout this race. I also want to thank my staff and all of the great volunteers who logged countless helping to get out the vote. This wouldn’t have happened without their dedication. There is much work to be done in Washington, and I look forward to continue working to advance solutions that help ensure America remains a country of opportunity for generations to come.”

As incoming vote tallies came in demonstrating a landslide win for the Republican Nominee, Garrett issued the following statement:

“First and foremost, I want to thank God and my family for their steadfast support. Similarly, I could not be more appreciative for the outpouring of support by volunteers, donors, and GOP units who have given so much during this election – it is truly humbling.”

Garrett went on to say:

“This campaign has always been about jobs and the equality of opportunity. I look forward to working on rolling back the destructive regulatory burdens on our job creators and pursuing creative solutions to replace Obamacare with a more affordable, market-based system. Further our legislators need to focus on pushing resources and decision making away from Washington and back to our localities. I will also make it a priority to fight to secure our borders and protect our nation from threats at home and abroad.”

Dittmar addressed a lobby full of supporters in Charlottesville who gathered to watch the results come in for the Presidential and Congressional races.

“This campaign has been about successfully knitting our country back together and the hope that our President and members of Congress will charge forward in the same direction to address our nation’s challenges,” said Dittmar in her speech.

Dittmar announced her candidacy September 17, 2015 with stops in Danville, Warrenton, and Charlottesville and has been campaigning every day since. Dittmar raised over $1.4 million dollars from roughly 25,000 donors, with each donation averaging $39. Dittmar has driven over 50,000 miles in the 10,000+ square mile district visiting with voters at neighborhood functions, fundraisers, community events, festivals, fairs, and door-to-door.

“Just moments ago, I spoke with Tom Garrett to congratulate him on becoming our congressman and to thank him for our spirited and vigorous contest,” continued Dittmar. “I wished him Godspeed I urge all those who supported me to join me in not just congratulating Tom, but offering him our good will and support in the important work ahead. I promised to him and requested that he promise me in return, that we now abandon partisan feeling and yield to patriotism in generous service to the 5th district and to our nation.”
