By Danielle Guichard – RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News caught up with Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine at Hermitage Retirement Community in Richmond early Tuesday morning as he was casting his ballot.

Kaine says he has been voting in the same precinct for over 24 years.

"We feel good. It's kind of like we've done all we could do," Kaine said. "Now it's in the hands of the voters, but we feel really comfortable about it and it's so nice to be back here in the neighborhood."

Kaine's final message to voters is simple: turn out and participate.

"I think the sign of a vigorous democracy is one where a lot of people participate," Kaine said.

Kaine's says his plan for the morning is morning shows, breakfast with his buddies, head home to hang out with family, and maybe even a walk.

He will then move up to New York City "and just be nervous for a while. It was so great to get back to George Mason and Richmond last night and start off the day here like we have so many elections in a row. It feels very, very normal…except I just got a bigger traveling crew than I used to."
