Southside business owners get educated about new overtime regulations

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Southside business owners had a better understanding on Monday of how the U.S. Department of Labor's new overtime regulations will affect them.

The Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce held a workshop Monday afternoon at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research.

Attorneys discussed the new regulations and took questions.

The biggest change with the new regulations is that it changes which employees are overtime-exempt based on how much money they make, according to the attorneys.

"It'll have an impact on our people. It'll have an impact on our business. But the transition itself, since we're informed, should be pretty smooth," said Piedmont Credit Union Alice Crowl, after the workshop was over.

The new regulations take effect December 1.
