Hokies look to tackle triple option

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - Virginia Tech welcomes Georgia Tech to Blacksburg on Saturday and the Yellow Jackets triple option is an offense that the Hokies don't defend often, and preparing for it is never an easy task.

"Part of the reason that it is a challenge defensively is you don't see it everyday and they're very good at running it. Coach Johnson and his staff have the answers when you give them something they can counter-punch with that. But it is an obstacle that has to be tackled in all phases of the game," said Hokies head coach Justin Fuente.

"They do a lot of things to mess with your eyes, like fake handoffs, pitches, so you just have to be fundamentally sound and make sure you're doing your job and not trying to do too much," explained linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka.

Georgia Tech ranks second in the ACC in rushing yards averaging 257 yards per game. The Hokies defense, particularly the defensive line and linebackers know they will be put to the test often.

"I think it's really fun, Georgia Tech week, especially at the mike position, just flying around trying to make plays all over the field," he added.

The last four years this game has been decided by a touchdown or less. Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30pm in Lane Stadium.
