Changes to Virginia Tech voting precincts expected to boost turnout

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Tuesday will be the first presidential election for Virginia Tech to have two voting precincts on campus.

The change was made a couple of years ago, after long lines created problems in the 2008 election. At that time, most students had to go to the polling place at the Blacksburg airport and vote alongside Blacksburg residents.

Now, there are two precincts on campus.

One has about 3,500 registered voters, while the other has about 1,700.

The registrar's office is expecting the shorter lines to boost voter turnout Tuesday.
