"Climb to Conquer Cancer" raises thousands of dollars for American Cancer Society

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Hundreds gathered to climb to the Roanoke star in an effort to fight cancer. More than 350 people participated in Saturday's "Climb to Conquer Cancer. The event included a 3 mile walk from River's Edge North to the Mill Mountain Star.

"Bringing people together to celebrate survivorship and honor all of our loved ones who had cancer or battling cancer," said Lucy Walton, volunteer chair. "It's an opportunity to raise funds for research for the American Cancer Society and raising awareness."

Organizers said the event raised more than $50,000.
