RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Bobby “BJ” Junes is dropping out of the race to become the next mayor of Richmond and endorsing former Venture Richmond Director Jack Berry.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/2ebphY7 ) the retired real estate consultant announced he was leaving the race Friday.
Junes says he is dropping out because he felt his campaign never gained the momentum he hoped it would. Junes says his challenges included fundraising and the death of his campaign committee chairman in April.
Eight candidates made the ballot in June, but only five are still running. They are: Berry, City Council President Michelle Mosby, former Del. Joe Morrissey, former Secretary of the Commonwealth Levar Stoney, and architect Lawrence Williams.
Councilman Jon Baliles left the race this week. Councilman Bruce Tyler dropped out of the race in September.
