(WSLS 10) - Franklin County Aging Services holds a seminar today to discuss the findings of a recent survey. Earlier this year, local seniors were asked to give their input on topics like services, activities and programs for seniors.
Carilion Clinic holds its first ever patient art show today. People who saw a Carilion doctor in 2015 or 2016 was eligible to submit artwork for the show. The artwork will be judged in five different categories and cash prizes totaling $3,100 will be awarded.

The Taubman Museum of Art holds opening night festivities to reveal canstruction creations and announce award winners. The sculptures were built by six teams and are made entirely of canned food. Prizes will be awarded in several different categories. The works of art will remain on display through November 20th, then dismantled with the food going to Feeding America Southwest Virginia.

Students from 18 different high schools will arrive on the Hollins University today. They will take part in the Appalachia Regional Model Arab League, where they will role-play ambassadors from Arab countries and debate issues. The event runs through Sunday.
A military hero from Lynchburg will have his story told on the big screen starting today. "Hacksaw Ridge" follows the story of Desmond Doss. He was in the army and refused to carry a gun during World War II. Doss saved 75 men and was awarded the medal of honor.
