ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Election Day is just days away and Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump continue to push for last-minute votes. Recent polls released by colleges in Virginia show that the commonwealth remains up for grabs.

According to Roanoke College, Hillary Clinton holds a seven-percentage point lead over Donald Trump among likely voters in the state. Meanwhile, a poll released earlier in the week from Hampton University found Trump ahead by three points.

WSLS 10 Political Analyst Dr. Ed Lynch said the differing results show the race remains close in Virginia.

“This state should have been wrapped up in August when Tim Kaine was chosen as the Vice Presidential candidate. That it is still up for grabs three days before the election is an indicator that Virginia is still a swing state and that Tim Kaine so far has not swung it in the direction of his candidate,” explained Lynch.

The Hampton University and Roanoke College polls were taken at different times and included voters in separate areas. The Hampton University poll was conducted from October 26-30. During that time, on October 28, the story about the FBI reopening the investigation into email servers used by Clinton was first reported. At the time details were scarce, but the news did have an impact on the data collected, according to Hampton University officials.

The Roanoke College poll was taken October 29 and November 1, after the announcement by FBI director James Comey.
