Roanoke County students pack 10,000 meals to help rescue mission

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Six new Students at Roanoke Valley Christian School lend a hand to the community.

Students packed 10,000 meals for the Roanoke Rescue Mission this morning.

The mission will pick up those meal this afternoon.

It's part of the school's service project that students participate in every year.

Organizers say missionaries from around the world spoke to students this week and today they'll apply what they learned into the community.

Eric Gutierrez of the rescue mission says, "One of the things we're training our kids is to be servants. We really do believe it's better to give than receive so we really want our kids to be active and creating a positive impact on the community they live in."

Organizers say 40 students will spend the day helping out at the rescue mission, while other students will be at other places throughout the community.
