(WSLS 10) - The Virginia Film Festival kicks off today in Charlottesville. The festival features classics and documentaries as well as filmmakers from Virginia. Last year more than 100 filmmakers from around the world attended. The festival runs through the weekend.

The Salvation Army holds training today for people who want to help after natural disasters. The goal is to have a team ready to help others in the United States. Today's training is the third session offered this fall.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission holds a public session today in Roanoke about the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The government agency issued its Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the project in September. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Roanoke.

The man who allegedly stole a car near Galax and drove it head-on into a Carroll County deputy's car will be in court today. According to the Wythe County Sheriff, Kevin Beasley was arrested in September after fleeing from deputies in Carroll County. The Wythe County Sheriff's Office received a tip that Beasley stole a car in Austinville and then led them on a chase. He wrecked the car and got into a fight before being taken into custody. He is charged with reckless driving, felony eluding officer, resisting arrest and assault on law enforcement officer.

People who live and work in Roanoke County will get an update on the State of the County. Members of the Board of Supervisors will speak this morning at the Green Ridge Recreation Center before business leaders.

Lynchburg City Schools continues its listening tour today. School leaders will be available to talk about the school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. The event starts at 7 p.m. at Dunbar Middle School.

Patrick Henry Community College holds a town hall meeting tonight about upcoming initiatives at the school. College leaders will talk about the school's new five year strategic plan as well enrollment and retention data.

The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation holds n information sessions about the Community College Access Program tonight. The program makes tuition free for students with a certain grade point average who meet financial requirements. Tonight's meetings takes place at Patrick Henry High School and the Greenfield Education and Training Center starting at 6 p.m.

Lynchburg city leaders will hold a public meeting tonight about the McConville Road Culvert Replacement Project. Work is scheduled to begin early next year. Staff will talk about the project and answer any questions tonight starting at 6:30 at New Covenant School.

Danville Parks and Recreation will hold a public meeting today about River Front Park. Representatives from the design firm will show two concept for the park which will be located between the former White Mill and Martin Luther King Jr. bridge.
