Roanoke Police Officer and his mentee featured on 'Today Show'

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - After months of national headlines of officer involved shootings, a local program will be featured on the "Today Show" on Thursday morning.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia's partnership with Roanoke Police is a piece of a larger story on "Bigs in Blue."

Back in October, a "Today Show" camera crew traveled to Roanoke to capture shots of big brother Ryan and little brother Robert.

The pair was matched two years ago and since then have shared many moments.

"Really it's about giving the kids some one-on-one time with a police officer, so that your building that trust with the community," Ryan Brady, a Roanoke Police Detective, explained.

"I think it's good because you get somebody that really, like, knows you and gets along with you very well, so if you're in trouble, you have somebody to go to," Little Robert said.

Ryan and Robert's story is scheduled to air in the 8 a.m. half-hour of the "Today Show" on Thursday morning.
