Christiansburg Police: 13-year-old finds needle in Halloween candy was false report

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - Police received a report on Tuesday night that a 13-year-old found what appeared to be a needle in a piece of Laffy Taffy candy she was given while trick-or-treating in neighborhoods behind Christiansburg High School.

The girl's parents called police, and an officer responded to their Christiansburg home on Tuesday night and confiscated the candy.

Police say after further discussions Wednesday morning with the 13-year-old girl who reported an object in her Halloween candy, Christiansburg Police have determined a false report was made and the candy was not altered by a third party.

"Thank you to all who shared this news yesterday. While we're pleased this is the outcome, it's still crucial to take precautions on Halloween and check your children's candy before they chow down!" said Christiansburg Police in a news release.

This comes after police reported the 13-year old bit into the candy  and was stuck by the needle. Christiansburg Police encouraged the parents to seek medical attention for the girl.

The candy, packaging and object were taken Tuesday night to be sent for analysis.
