Carilion breaks ground on new family medicine location in Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT (WSLS 10) - People in Rocky Mount will soon have a new health care option.

Carilion Clinic held a groundbreaking on Tuesday for its new Rocky Mount family medicine location on Old Franklin Turnpike.

It will replace the current family practice on Maple Avenue.

The practice will include 12 exam rooms, a covered patient pick-up and drop-off area and enough space for up to four providers.

"Medical care in a basic need for all of us and it's nice to have the stores and the additional services here. When people need to be treated medically, they don't want to travel very far and they want to have a modern facility that provides the best level of care and that's what we want to be doing for this community and that's what we hope to do in this facility," explained Dr. Anthony R. Stavola, Carilion Clinic's Vice Chair for the Department of Family & Community Medicine.

Construction is expected to start in the coming days.

No word yet on when it's expected to open.
