Danville children get an early start to trick-or-treating

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Dozens of Southside trick-or-treaters are getting a head start on collecting Halloween candy.

On Friday afternoon, the Danville River District Association held its "Creepy Candy Crawl" event.

Children 12 and under dressed up and had the opportunity to go around to businesses in the River District and collect candy.

The fire department also gave children a chance to tour the department's fire trailer and learn about fire safety.

This was the third year for the event and businesses say they look forward to it each year.

"It brings back wonderful memories of our childhood," said Callia Richardson, with the Meredith Gravely School of Dance. "I lived in Druid Hills and we trick-or-treated everywhere. Homemade costumes. It was lots of fun."

More than 40 businesses participated in this year's event.
