(WSLS 10) - Candidates for the 5th District seat will face off tonight for the eighth and final time. Democrat Jane Dittmar and Republican Tom Garrett will answer questions tonight starting at 7 p.m. at the Institute for Advance Learning and Research.

Campbell County and VDOT hold an informational meeting tonight to talk about the Route 29/Wards Road Corridor in Campbell County. The groups will talk about the study analysis for the project. The meetings runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hyland Heights Baptist Church.

The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation holds an information session about the Community College Access Program tonight. The program makes tuition free for students with a certain grade point average who meet financial requirements. Tonight's meeting takes place at Northside High School starting at 6 p.m.

Roanoke College dedicates its new athletic and academic complex today. The new 155,000 square foot Cregger Center opened it August. It has an indoor track, fitness center, athletic training clinic and more. More than $30 million was raised to build the facility. The college estimates it will have a $1.4 million economic impact every year.

Roanoke's Parks and Recreation Department cuts the ribbon on the new playground at Smith Park. The new playground was developed through a partnership with the Civitan's Club that is more accessible, so children of all abilities can play together. First graders from Wasena Elementary will get to play on the new playground at 12:30 p.m., before the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting.

The Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League and community members launch a new project today, targeting the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The project is described as "a creative effort to empower people and communities in the proposed pipeline's path." An art installation will be unveiled.

Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea and Salem Mayor Randy Foley hold a joint news conference today. They will issue a proclamation designating November as "Tabs to remember the Children" month. They will ask people to collect pull top tabs during the month. The goal is to reach 1.5 million, representing the number of children killed in the Holocaust. Once the goal is reached, Temple Emanuel will hold a memorial service.
