Free community college program expanding to Radford

DUBLIN (WSLS 10) – A program that allows local high school students to go to college for free is expanding in the New River Valley.

New River Community College’s Access to Community College Education initiative will now serve students in Radford. It launched in Giles County two years ago.

The program uses funds from localities, as well as matching private investments, to send a handful of local high school graduates to community college for two years, tuition free.

Participating students must do 80 hours of community service each year.

Leaders are hoping to also expand ACCE to Montgomery County in the next couple of years.
