6-year-old Cumberland County girl found safe

By Danielle Guichard – UPDATE (3:10 p.m.) - Six-year-old Yarah Atiya Thomas has been located and is safe, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office posted the update on their page at 2:09 p.m.

She was with her mother, who has been arrested, according to our sister station in Richmond, WRIC.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department said on their Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that a 6-year-old girl is missing from Cumberland County.

Authorities said Yarah Atiya Thomas was last seen getting into a black four-door car after getting off of her school bus on Mahan Road Tuesday afternoon. Thomas is approximately four feet tall and weighs 55 pounds.

She was last seen wearing a green and yellow shirt, jeans, gray and pink sneakers, and a black and pink Hello Kitty backpack. It is unknown who she is with at this time.

Sheriff Darrell Hodges told 8News that Yarah may be with her mom. The problem with that, he says, is that mom is considered armed and dangerous. The sheriff added mom is wanted for a shooting in Farmville a couple of weeks ago.

Hodges insists that until he knows this little girl is safe, his department will continue to look for Yarah.

If you have any information on her whereabouts or who she may be with, please call 804-492-4120.
