REWATCH: Roanoke police news conference about Tuesday's double-fatal shooting

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - During a 3 p.m. news conference, Roanoke police released the identity of the man they say killed two people, including himself, and shot three others on Tuesday morning.

Police say Getachew Fekede, 53, of Kenya, worked at FreightCar America until March of this year. After he missed three days of work, police say he was terminated.

During the news conference, Roanoke Police Chief Tim Jones said that Fekede fired 10 rounds from a 9 mm handgun in the paint shop, where employees paint box cars.

Police have not yet determined if those shot were supervisors or coworkers of Fekede.

Fekede died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

Police also said that he lived in Roanoke on Lin Avenue and came to Virginia in 2011 through a refugee immigration program.

Police are not releasing the victims names at this time.

While police say this appears to be an isolated workplace incident, they are continuing to investigate.
