Police: Woman arrested for falsely reporting robbery, then embezzling money

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Lynchburg police arrested a Boost Mobile employee who they say originally claimed to have the company's money stolen from her, but she actually kept it for herself.

Tuesday at 10:03 a.m., police responded to what was initially reported as a robbery at the Boost Mobile at 2323 Memorial Avenue.

A Boost Mobile employee, 38-year-old Christian Cruz-Ayala, of Lynchburg, said she was walking to make a deposit when she was pushed from behind and robbed of that deposit, according to police.

Police say that during the investigation, they determined that she falsely reported the robbery so she could keep the money for herself.

Police were able to recover the full amount of the deposit.

Cruz-Ayala was arrested and faces charges of embezzlement, falsely summoning the police and filing a false police report.
