Lynchburg police investigating possible armed robbery at Food Zone

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Lynchburg police are investigated an armed robbery. It happened on October 23rd at approximately 9:41 am.

Officers say they responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Food Zone located at 1221 Rivermont Avenue where an employee and witness reported that an unknown subject entered the business and demanded money. According to police, the subject was pointing a possible weapon at the employee, however, it was undetermined what that may have been due to the suspect having it covered by the sleeve of their sweatshirt. The suspect also had their face completely covered by cinching up their hood on their sweatshirt.

Police said the suspect then ran away with an undisclosed amount of money. The witness followed the suspect and observed them begin to shed some of their outer clothing. The suspect was last seen on Amherst St. in between Bedford Ave. and Pansy St. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described by the witness as follows: A light-skinned black male, approximately 5'4 to 5'6, and approximately 145 lbs. Police said the suspect was initially wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, baseball hat and dark pants. However, the suspect did shed the sweatshirt and hat while fleeing on foot and that was recovered on Amherst St. This incident is currently being investigated.
