Virginia Tech investigating after offensive sign displayed

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - It was a big night for Hokie football who took home a win against the Miami Hurricanes.

While there is a big rivalry between the two teams, some fans took it too far and now the school is investigating after an offensive sign was put on display.

The sign read "Bury the U next to Jose Fernandez r.i.p."

Many took to social media to voice their disgust.

Virginia Tech responded in a tweet that the sign is tasteless and does not reflect Hokie Nation values.

Jose Fernandez passed away in a boating accident in September.

The former ace of the Miami Marlins has received tributes from around the world.

The Hurricanes were one of the teams honoring him with a sticker on their helmets.
