Rocky Mount's Bootleggers Cafe to close this weekend

ROCKY MOUNT (WSLS 10) - The owner of Bootleggers Cafe in Rocky Mount announced the restaurant is "suspending operations" this weekend.

The restaurant is located beside the Harvester Performance Center in the historic downtown and often offered specials with shows.

Due to the closure, more than 20 people will lose their jobs.

Owner Bryan Hochstein said business wasn't what it needed to be.

"So we just kind of came to a point where the concept we had just wasn't working for the downtown area," Hochstein said. "So we are going to switch our focus to the inn across the street, set up fine dining by reservation only. There will be five course meals and so forth. So as one chapter closes another one opens."

Hochstein says several potential buyers have shown interest in the historic building.

He says he doesn't expect the building to be vacant for long.

The last day of operations will be Sunday, October 23.
