The FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway Chapters provide students with local tours, Appalachian musical concerts, homemade foods, and projects restoring Parkway trails.  The students learn about the Blue Ridge Parkway's culture and heritage while making their own contributions.  This year the college students are mentoring children from Joy Ranch, a residential program for children in crisis while working on projects together.

"Our goal is to get more of our youth on the Parkway -- we must create future stewards," says FRIENDS Associate Director, Dr. Jennifer Snyder, who planned the event.   "We have an extra special day planned for our Joy Ranch children involving a joint Parkway and community project with Notre Dame mentors, Music Center tours, lunch, and a hike.  We are so excited to work with Susan Huxster, Residential Care Director at Joy Ranch and Fisher Peak Chapter member, to bring children to the Parkway!"
