Texas Tavern and Black Dog Salvage team up to help local veterans

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A joint effort by two Roanoke staples is making a difference for local veterans. Workers from Black Dog Salvage unveiled a refurbished Texas Tavern sign Wednesday.

The stars of the DIY's Network's "Salvage Dawgs" used reclaimed barn wood and a railroad spike to add a touch of Roanoke's history.

The sign was auctioned off on eBay and raised more than $5,000.

On Wednesday, representatives from Texas Tavern and Black Dog Salvage presented that check to the Virginia Veterans and Family Support.

"The money can provide behavioral health services such as counseling, PTSD services, brain injury services and supportive services that may assist with housing, transportation, and things of that nature," said Leanna Craig, a spokesperson of the Virginia Veterans and Family Support.

Craig said this donation will help nearly 100,000 veterans here in Southwest Virginia.
