Pups and polo combine for inaugural matchup at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Puppies and polo will come together at an inaugural event at Virginia Tech on Sunday.

The polo club at Virginia Tech will host its inaugural Pups 'n Polo event to bring together club alumni and other graduates, along with dogs from local shelters.

More than 200 people are expected to watch the match, according to club president Ella Rak.

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter and Animal Welfare Foster Program will be in attendance with dogs ready for adoption, as well as information about how to adopt.

Growley, the Corp of Cadets' ambassador, will also be at the event during the singing of the national anthem.

"We really wanted to reach out to the animal loving populations in Blacksburg since when do you have so many students who are looking for a dog to pet and play with. A lot of times horses and dogs go together so we were attempting to be able to reach out to both groups at the same time," Rak said.

Pups 'n Polo is Sunday, October 23 at 1 p.m. at the Alphin-Stuart Livestock Arena.
