Marching Virginians to collect food at Thursday night game

Blacksburg (WSLS 10) - The Marching Virginians are making a difference in the 20th annual Hokies for the Hungry food drive.

When tech takes on the Miami Hurricanes Thursday night band members will stage at all the entrances of lane stadium collecting food and cash donations.

They even go as far as taking personal requests at tailgates for a donation of course.

One band officer says they have a set goal in mind.

"Every contribution matters whether it's a dollar or a can or a box of even powder mashed potatoes. Our goal every year is one can per fan, so we're aiming for 66,000 cans every year, so every donation helps," explained Sam Hall, Marching Virginians Public Relations Officer.

All the donations go to the Montgomery County Christmas Store and are handed out to families in need in southwest Virginia during the holiday season.
