Cleanup continues on I-81 after tractor-trailer crash in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police say a tractor-trailer carrying cucumbers crashed on I-81 on Monday night.

VSP says the accident happened at 11:41pm on I-81 near mile marker 143 in Roanoke County.

Police say a man was driving north on I-81 when he ran into the guard rail. He was on the guard rail for about two-tenths of a mile before flipping over it.

The driver told police he fell asleep at the wheel. VSP says there were no signs that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was taken to the hospital and released. He was not injured.

Crews are still cleaning up the cucumbers that were spilled onto the side of the road.

VSP says the right lane will soon reopen and the right shoulder will remain closed until cleanup is finished
