Wings of Freedom Tour soars in Star City

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Wings of Freedom Tour is underway this weekend in celebration of the 75th anniversary for the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport's Woodrum field.

Dozens lined up to get inside fighter planes like the B-17 used in World War II. The Collings Foundation, a non-profit organization, is working to get people to learn more about history, specifically those who served in the war.

"If they didn't sacrifice their lives and their livelihoods we wouldn't have the freedom we have today, so it's important that kids understand that and appreciate that, and I hope they come out here and see that kids not much older than them were going to war and not coming back," Jamie Mitchell with the Wings of Freedom Tour said.

The show continues Sunday from 9 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children.
