Pulaski County announces new administrator

PULASKI (WSLS 10) - After months of searching, Pulaski County now has a new administrator.

During a special Board of Supervisors meeting on Friday, the county announced that Grayson County administrator Jonathan Sweet will take over in January.

Sweet will replace Pete Huber, who is retiring after more than 30 years of service.

This announcement comes just one day after the federal government designated Pulaski County as a high intensity drug trafficking area.

That news came from senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. Wythe and Frederick counties were also included in the list.

While the designation indicates a serious drug problem, it also means the counties will get federal resources to help fight it.

"Some of the strategies that come to mind are family-focused initiatives, parenting initiatives," said Sweet. "Those types of programs are hard to find a lot of money and resources for, but they're very important."

Grayson County received the same drug trafficking designation earlier this year.

Sweet said he will also focus heavily on job creation and economic development.
