Pittsylvania Co. Sheriff's Office helps collect donations for God's Pit Crew

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office is trying to help God's Pit Crew bring relief to victims of Hurricane Matthew.

On Friday, members of the sheriff's office were at Food Lions around the county collecting donations.

God's Pit Crew has already sent more than 300,000 pounds of supplies to victims in the Carolinas.

Thursday, a group of volunteers also left for Conway, S.C. to help with the clean up efforts.

"We just saw it as a way to give back to some of the flood victims from our sister states. We could find ourselves in the very same situation and we know they would come to our aid," said Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor.

Supplies and money can also be dropped off at the sheriff's office in Chatham.
