Bedford County Animal Shelter Employee Charged with Abusing Cat

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) –  A Bedford County Animal Shelter employee is facing felony charges and has been fired after abusing a cat.

Animal Control deputies responded to the complaint on August 10. They were told that Bryan Skinnell injured a cat while performing cleaning maintenance at the facility.

Deputies say he got frustrated because the cat kept escaping its cage. The cat was taken to a local veterinarian clinic and had to be euthanized due to its injuries. The cause of death was consistent with blunt force trauma.

Skinnell was terminated and charged with felony animal cruelty.

On September 26, Skinnell was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Facility. He was released on a Personal Recognizance bond.
