Radford University inaugurates new president

RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Radford University officially welcomed its new leader on Thursday with a formal ceremony.

Dr. Brian Hemphill was inaugurated as the school's seventh president.

He took office a few months ago, succeeding the university's first female president, Penelope Kyle.

Hemphill said a strong brand-identity, increased enrollment and a focus on innovation will be among his top priorities.

"Regardless of race, creed, color or economic background, access must remain a top priority," said Hemphill. "No one should be denied an education based on affordability."

Hemphill comes to Radford from West Virginia State University, where he served as president and professor.
