Danville Community College offering unique electric bicycle workshop

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville Community College is trying to educate people about electric bicycles and how to work on them, as they are becoming increasingly popular around the country.

Thursday was the first day of a two-day workshop at the college.

DCC is one of only two colleges that currently offers the training.

People from California, Missouri, and New Hampshire traveled to Danville for the workshop.

"They learn from the basics to the advanced concepts of e-bikes. They learn how e-bikes work, how motors work, batteries, control systems," explained workshop instructor Don Gerhardt.

Bob Vandley just started working as a salesman for an electric bicycle company in St. Louis, Missouri and came out to better understand the products.

"In Europe, it's huge. In North America, we're at the beginning of the swell. We're going to try to hopefully join the momentum," said Vandley.

The next workshop is expected to be offered in the fall of 2017.
