Sheriff's office: 18-year-old in custody after shooting at car and WDBJ7 vehicle in Bedford County

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested an 18-year-old after a shooting incident in the Thaxton area on Thursday.

Daniel Flint,18, of Bedford, now faces charges of arson, malicious shooting of an occupied vehicle and attempted malicious shooting of an occupied vehicle.

The arrest occurred without incident and no one was injured during the event, according to the sheriff's office.

At 12:30 p.m., Bedford county dispatchers received a 911 call saying there were gunshots in a house on Wheatland Road and the young man who lived there, Flint, had a history of mental issues.

The caller also called Flint's stepfather to tell him he saw his stepson walking up the road with a rifle.

The stepfather called 911 and said that there were two rifles in the house and one was loaded, although he said both guns were supposed to be locked up.

Another person called 911 saying that a person with blond hair was ringing his doorbell and holding a rifle. The caller then said that the man ran toward the woods.

Bedford County Sheriff's deputies, along with Bedford Town Police officers and Conservation Police, responded to the area and attempted to find Flint.

After arriving at the man's house, 5202 Wheatland Road, deputies found a fire burning behind the house next to a large propane tank. The Bedford Fire Department arrived an extinguished the fire.

Deputies also found extensive damage to the inside of the residence, including broken doors and what appeared to be bullet holes.

At 1:43 p.m. dispatchers received a call from WDBJ7, who advised that a subject had fired a shot at their van near the intersection of Von Roy Road and Wheatland Road. The WDBJ7 reporter is a little shaken up, but Major Ricky Gardner, with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, said he is fine.

At 1:51 p.m., dispatchers received a call advising a man wearing a camo jacket had shot a tire out on their vehicle on Wheatland Road.

At 2:03 p.m. deputies located Flint on Von Roy Road and took him into custody without incident. A .270 rifle, belonging to the stepfather, was recovered at this time.

Gardner said more charges are possible against Flint.
