Rail Yard Dawgs Open Training Camp

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

The long awaited and much anticipated return of hockey to Roanoke is right upon us. The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs opened training camp Wednesday morning.

The next few days will be all about execution and evaluation as players focus on making a good impression, in hopes of making the roster. Despite not knowing who will be on the team, coach Sam Ftorek says it's all about building a foundation and getting players comfortable.

"The Devil is in the details you know we can do whatever system we want the problem is there's no system unbreakable", said Ftorek.

"We have to be the best in our system and disciplined in our system and that comes with knowing what they need to do. I teach everyone as if they've never been taught the game of hockey before that way they know the ins and outs. We're where we need to be when we need to be there and we'll work on their skills after that."

Now that the stage is set and the lights are on, it's just a matter of filling out the roster before the first drop of the puck.

The Rail Yard Dawgs open their season at home in the Berglund Center Friday October 21st.
