New meat processing facility to open in Grayson County

GRAYSON COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Grayson County company will invest $2.1 million to build a first of its kind facility in Virginia.

River Ridge Land and Cattle Company announced Wednesday it will start construction next week on a meat processing facility.

It will receive about $95,000 in state and Tobacco Commission money to help with the effort.

The processing center will bring in 11 new jobs with an average wage of $30,000.

River Ridge has also committed to buying $4 million of Virginia grown meat over the next three years.

"It really demonstrates that with a world class workforce, with the support of the community, that we can have next-level food processing operations locate and operate right here in far southwest Virginia," said Grayson County administrator Jonathan Sweet.

The center is expected to open by March.
