CAMPBELL COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A longtime Brookville High School educator will soon have a field named in his honor.

The Campbell County School Board approved a request to name Brookville High School's stadium field in honor of John "Bunker" Hill, a long-time teacher and coach at Brookville High School.

Hill worked at the school from 1950 until 1987. He taught physical education, served as athletic director, and coached baseball, track, basketball and football.

After his retirement, he continued to instruct driver's education and serve as a substitute teacher, providing more than 60 years of dedicated service to Brookville High School.

Even now, he still attends games and stays in touch with sports programs at Brookville. His loyalty to the school has earned him the respect and admiration of his former students and players as well as others in the community.

"When coaching back then, Bunker didn't have the facilities, equipment or support we enjoy today. On those hot summer practices at the old high school, the field was rough, the equipment marginal, there was no "gatorade", only salt tablets and water," said Dr. Bob Sydnor, BHS '67. "Bunker was not only head coach, he was also team physician, trainer, psychiatrist, and second father to those boys he loved so much and still does. I can think of no one who better embodies the Brookville spirit of toughness, competitiveness, team spirit, loyalty and fair play than Bunker Hill."

A dedication date has yet to be announced.
