Two suspects wanted in Massachusetts, arrested in Rockbridge County

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Massachusetts police say a man and a woman wanted for a deadly home invasion in Massachusetts are behind bars today, in Virginia.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Joshua Hart and 27-year-old Brittany Smith on Massachusetts larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property arrest warrants.

Both Hart and Smith are from Athol, Mass. Smith attended high school there, while for Hart, the area is his last known address

The victims' stolen vehicle has also been found in a different location in Virginia.

Police say Hart and Smith are scheduled to have fugitive from justice arraignments tomorrow in and then,depending on if they waive rendition, they could be back in Massachusetts as early as Thursday.

The two have been charged here with murder, attempted murder, home invasion, armed robbery, larceny over $250, conspiracy, larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Police say the home invasion happened on October 5 at 581 East River Street in Orange, Massachusetts.

95-year-old Thomas Harty was found dead inside the home and his 75-year-old wife, Joanna Fisher, was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.

Rockbridge deputies say Massachusetts Investigators had shared information on Hart and Smith and indicated that the two may have been located in Rockbridge County.

Investigators received more information on Friday, that indicated the two suspects were possibly located in Rockbridge County. Deputies contacted the Rockbridge Regional Emergency Communications Center, and began to saturate areas where the two could possibly be located.

On Saturday, deputies found the two suspects in a U-Haul truck, parked at the Rockbridge County Wal-Mart, and took them into custody on warrants in Massachusetts.

Both suspects were  arrested by the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Department and are being held without the right to bail.
