LYNCHBURG (WSLS) - Flooded roads, downed trees and power lines, as well as other damage are left behind as the rain and wind from Hurricane Matthew move away from the area. Virginia Department of Transportation officials are urging drivers to use caution.

On US 58 East in Pittsylvania County near Routes 62 and 726, a large sinkhole occurred Saturday night said VDOT. Both eastbound lanes of US 58 are closed in the area and traffic is being detoured via VA 62 to NC 57, NC 119 and VA 119 back to US 58 East. An evaluation has been done of the incident and plans are underway to have the road reopened within a week or sooner, if possible, officials said.
