Founder of New Freedom Farm hosts ribbon cutting

BUCHANAN (WSLS10) -A local organization aims to serve those who served their country by helping combat veterans transition back into civilian life.

The founder of New Freedom Farm helps veterans through horse therapy, all while saving horses that were set to go to slaughter.

On Saturday, the founder of the non-profit held a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Lois Fritz, a Navy veteran herself said she wanted to do help other veterans who battling depression or PTSD.

“I want to give back to the community, I want to help heal humans through horses and in our country there are 22 veteran suicides a day,” Fritz said.

Not only is Fritz helping veterans but she’s also helping horses as well. The horses on the farm were set to go to the slaughterhouse.

Fritz said she wants to help those like Suzan Keith be able to cope with being at a crowd.

“I love being here and being around the horses and I’ve developed a love for horses since i’ve been coming here,” Suzan Keith, who comes to the farm said.

Marine veteran Andrew Lynn said working one on one with the horses offers a piece of mind he hasn’t been able to find since coming home.

“Instead of being stressed out with everything going on around me I have the ability to enjoy what we’re here to do,” Lynn said.
