Town leaders say Fries’ drinking water doesn’t have lead

FRIES (WSLS 10) – Leaders in the town of Fries say the water is now safe to drink.

This comes after workers issued a notice that high levels of lead were detected in the drinking water.

This comes after the Virginia Department of Health tested back in January where they found high levels of lead.

Fries Mayor Richard Farmer said the state came back again in July of this year and only two homes had the issue.

He said they checked the town’s source of drinking water and the plant where the water is distributed and there was not any lead in either places.

“It’s safe. It’s good clean water. All the time we are getting awards from the state in terms of the quality of the water and the plant operation we feel good about our water system and what we’re pumping out,” said Farmer.

The mayor said the state is expected to come back again in January to test the water to make sure the homes do not have lead.
