Salvation Army holds supply drive for Hurricane Matthew victims

LYNCHBURG (WSLS10) – The Salvation Army is holding a supply drive to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Volunteers are collecting money, as well as canned food, water and other supplies at the Sam’s Club in the Hill City.

Their goal is to fill two trucks to take to hurricane victims in Florida and the Carolinas.

“Shelters are going to need food and they’re going to need services there,” said Donald Dohmann, commanding officer for Salvation Army of Lynchburg. “We know that first responders responding to the affected areas are going to need to be fed while they’re there and also, the victims of the storm as well. So, we know that by collecting these items now, having those ready to go as early as Sunday, to get there just in time when folks are going to need it the most.”

The Salvation Army will collect supplies again on Monday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
