WAVY – FARMVILLE, Va. (WAVY) —  Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence are set to square off in the lone vice presidential debate Tuesday night from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

Sources with Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine say part of his strategy Tuesday will be to hold Pence accountable for GOP nominee Donald Trump's campaign.

Kaine will be looking to force Pence to explain Trump's controversial comments and views.

Campaign aides say Kaine is also preparing to cut through the attacks from his challenger about Hillary Clinton's record.

On the other side, Pence's will be looking to talk about Kaine's failures in office while touting his own achievements as governor of Indiana.

Experts believe that Pence will likely attempt to patch up Trump's self-inflicted wounds during this election cycle, and shift the spotlight away from his running mate's controversial statements.

The debate is scheduled to take place at 9 p.m., and will be broadcast on WSLS 10, as well as WSLS.com and on Facebook Live.

The 90-minute debate will be divided into nine segments of about 10 minutes in length. Topics for the debate have not been released.
