DANVILLE (WSLS 10) – God’s Pit Crew is asking for donations for blessing buckets as the organization prepares to potentially respond to help victims of Hurricane Matthew.

The buckets are filled with toiletries and non-perishable food items and are given to families after disasters.

God’s Pit Crew volunteers have just returned from helping flood victims in Covington, Louisiana and already have plans to help out other flood victims in other parts of the country.

Now, with Hurricane Matthew affecting thousands in Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, and possibly even the East Coast, God’s Pit Crew CEO Randy Johnson is worried.

He said there are currently only about 100 blessing buckets left in the warehouse.

“We’ve done a lot of work in Haiti, have a lot of friends and relationships there and we’re just really concerned. There’s going to be a monstrous need there following this,” Johnson said.

On Tuesday, God’s Pit Crew volunteers were working on packing boxes of items to send to Haiti as Christmas gifts for children. It’s something the organization does every year in partnership with missions in Haiti.

The first load of boxes was scheduled to be shipped out Thursday, but because of the hurricane that will have to be postponed.

“We know that after this devastation, these will be even more important to those kids with all the loss that I’m sure is going to be there,” said Johnson.

A list of items needed for blessing buckets can be found here. Johnson emphasizes that currently bath towels, flashlights and batteries are what is needed most.

On Saturday, volunteers will be assembling the buckets at God’s Pit Crew’s warehouse. Anyone is welcome to volunteer.
