Scully, 88, has spent most of his professional career with the Dodgers franchise, calling games for radio and TV since 1950 – eight years before the team moved to Los Angeles. He announced prior to the 2016 season that this one would be his last.
The Dodgers honored Scully with a special pregame ceremony on Sept. 23 and announced he will be added to the team's ring of honor in Dodger Stadium. But, with the Dodgers finishing the season on the road, it was up to the rival Giants fans to give the Hall of Famer his proper send-off.
In his lengthy, esteemed career, Scully has called three perfect games, 20 no-hitters and was behind the microphone for Hank Aaron's 715th career home run that broke Babe Ruth's longtime record. He is noted for some of the most prolific calls in sports history, including Kirk Gibson's game-winning home run that helped propel the Dodgers past the Oakland A's for the 1988 World Series. Scully's call of the home run is quoted by baseball fans everywhere: "In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened."
