GTO cadet program expands to Montgomery County

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) – Montgomery County first responders welcomed the first class of Growth Through Opportunity cadets on Monday morning as three cadets started the four-month program.

GTO started in Roanoke City and provides opportunities for those with special needs to learn job and life skills.

“Hopefully, they will grow to understand that we love them and we’re there for them and I feel certain we’re going to take much more away from them than they do us,” explained Montgomery County Sheriff Hank Partin.

Partin said the cadets will work with all first responders in the county including those in Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Radford.
